Workshop Wednesdays Make the Practical Personal

Workshop on International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

On Wednesdays at Sambhali Trust centers, students of all ages take a break from math, sewing, or language lessons to receive practical information on a variety of topics that can impact their daily lives.

Workshop Wednesdays is a program that began in 2009. They are conducted at both the Primary Education Centers where they are adapted for young children, and at the Empowerment Centers for adult women and adolescent girls.

From the digestive system to diabetes, and from using plants to reduce pollution to eradicating poverty, the workshops enlighten and oftentimes bring new awareness of issues that had never been discussed with the students before.

Take, for example, this report from one of the teachers at Drishti Empowerment Center in Jaisalmer after the workshop on marital rape, “The women did not believe in the idea of marital rape prior to the workshop. For them, raising voice against this issue is still a difficult task but now they know that this is a societal problem.” The first step toward change is awareness, and that is what these workshops are accomplishing.
