Sambhali House

Sambhali Trust purchased the ground floor of Sambhali House in 2019 to provide space for the organization’s office and the Sambhali Boutique. At that time, the Trust also rented the top floor and outside roof areas of the building to provide space for ongoing Sambhali Trust programs. These areas are currently being reconfigured to provide expanded space for two core programs:

Abhayasthali Boarding Home for young women who previously attended the Sheerni Boarding Home and are now attending college—the first women in their families to do so. At Abhayasthali they form a community, cooking and taking care of their own daily needs, but with support from the Sambhali community to help them navigate college and study for important tests, as well as the opportunity to participate in Sambhali workshops and self-defense classes.

Nirbhaya, Sambhali Trust’s program on gender-based violence, will use the remainder of the space to provide emergency and transition shelter to women and children working with the Trust’s counseling and legal team to resolve ongoing issues and establish permanent housing.

To provide a secure and stable home for these programs, Sambhali Trust must purchase this space by the end of 2021 when the current lease expires. Sambhali U.S. is joining with other international partners to raise funds make this possible.
