Intern Uses Data to Paint Pictures with Words
Kayla Laughton, who graduated this spring with a Masters degree in International Affairs at Penn State University, has a talent for telling stories of the women and girls in Rajasthan, India.
Since December 2020, Kayla has interned with Sambhali U.S. She has provided support for the organization’s communications efforts to expand our reach through individual and corporate engagement, social media, and website development. In May, she presented her research on influencers to the Sambhali U.S. board of directors.
Board member Dina Baker raves about Kayla’s work. “She brought a creative mind to our Influencer Audience project to make recommendations that took us well beyond what was explicitly asked of her. I believe she has moved us along significantly in our ability to leverage influencer audiences to help serve our organization’s goals.”
Kayla’s mother can trace her roots to Northern India and Kayla was drawn to the Sambhali U.S. mission of giving women the tools they need to achieve a better quality of life. “Female empowerment is a global issue, and I can use my privilege, as someone from the West to better the lives of women internationally,” Kayla says.
Currently, Kayla lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Along with the time she gives to Sambhali U.S., she works for a home care agency and is getting her certification in data analysis.
